Will Going Green Make You a Hippie? Just Smarter and a Bit More Hip!
A revolution is going on. In technology, communication and life science. By going green, you will use the best in green technology. Be on the cutting edge of smart. Decide for yourself to make some positive changes—for you, for your family, for your community. In that way, you will surely share something with the hippies and other innovators: a determination to be who you want to be.
Going green will save you money. Not always in the very short term, as many disposable products are seductively cheap. But when you compare the cost in money, time, maintenance and the impact on our health, green comes out on top every time.
For ease of navigation, the topics are organized here under the general headings "Actions & Ideas" and "Products." The Hippies
What does this have to do with hippies? In recent history they have been associated with the peace dove, peace signs such as the one shown here advocating nuclear disarmament, and a culture announcing independence from conformity, championing individual rights and as embracing peace, love and community. According to sources listed in Wikipedia, the foundation of the 60’s hippies can be found in an ancient Greek counterculture espoused by philosophers such as Diogenes and the Cynics. Their philosophy can be found also in the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, Buddha, St. Francis of Assisi, Henry David Thoreau and Gandhi. The German Der Wandervogel (migratory bird) movement emigrated to the United States in the early 1900’s bringing with it a preference for a natural lifestyle and community. By the mid 1960’s, the popular U.S. hippie movement had spread to the U.K., Europe, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Japan, Mexico and Brazil. It is now recognized all over the world. So if your friends kid you about being a hippie for choosing to support a healthy, peaceful, sustainable lifestyle, you are in some good company. Going green is hip but not trendy.
