Is an Anti-Aging Supplement Right for You?
An anti-aging supplement may be a vitamin, mineral or an essential hormone of which we produce less as we age. Most vitamins and minerals we can obtain through a healthy balanced diet. Some we cannot. Before you choose a supplement, balance its claimed benefits against what scientific studies have found, and consider its potential risks or cross-reactivity with prescriptions you may already be taking. Look very critically at any supplement that claims to "reverse aging." For example, glucosamine sulfate has been shown in some scientific studies to help in the rebuilding of cartilage tissue. While of course it is good to have the proper amount of healthy cartilage appropriate to your age, this does not mean that glucosamine will return your cartilage to its volume or condition at age twenty.
